Evan Lum
Brooklyn, NY / Ithaca, NY
(He/Him/His)
I’m currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University, in the class of 2029. In 2025, I graduated from HSMSE, one of NYC’s top ranked High Schools. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Although my passion is making stuff, (Engineering) I’ve also worked over half a dozen jobs supporting education. From Assistant Teaching to Camp Counseling, I’ve supported general education, as well as specifically STEM learning. Furthermore, I learned Russian as my first language, and I’ve worked with students, elementary schoolers through high schoolers, helping and supporting the understanding of their language and culture.
What am I Good at?
Some stuff. If you’d like a full resume, contact me! I’d love to chat. But in short:
A Few Past Jobs (And why I liked them)
- Teaching Assistant, Russian Language Studio of Language Arts and Culture Inc.
- I got to help kids speak Russian and put on a play for families to remember. Whether the kids remember is another question.
- Furniture Assembly, Evan’s Furniture Assembly
- I like building stuff. Kind of fits into the engineering thing.
- Intern, Salk Institute
- Watching the inner workings of REAL research was eye opening.
Hobbies (Some I’m good at, some I’m trying out)
- Programming
- I love messing around with computers and making cool stuff. (This website runs on an old PC that sits in a corner at home)
- 3D Printing
- Any space I live in is full of little 3D printed trinkets. I got a cheap 3D printer in covid, and modified it. The mods probably cost more than the machine. (For those wondering, I have an Ender 3)
- Knitting
- I like warm scarves.
Fun Facts
- I speak 4 languages (Depending on your definition of speak)
- Favorite colors? Blue, Black, Green, Purple
- Favorite Movie? Kindergarten Cop
- Which kitchen utensil would I be? Chopsticks
If you ever see me, come say hi.
